Datura metal



  1. Habit : Large, erect herb.

  2. Root : Branched tap root system.

  3. Stem : Hollow, herbaceous stem with strong odour.

  4. Leaf : Simple, alternate, sinuate, exstipulate, glabrous with uni-costate reticulate venation.

  5. Inflorescence : Auxillary solitary cyme.

  6. Flower : Pedicellate, bracteate, bisexual, pentamerous, actinomorphic, dichlamydeous, complete and hypogynous.

  7. Calyx : Sepals 5, gamopetalous, persistent, valvate aestivation, odd sepal is posterior.

  8. Corolla : Petals 5, gamopetalous, twisted aestivation, tubular, funnel shaped with wide mouth and 5 to 10 lobed.

  9. Androecium : Stamens 5, epipetalous, alternate with petals and are inserted in the middle of the corolla tube. Anthers are basifixed, dithecous, introse, dehisce longitudinally.

  10. Gynoecium : Bicarpellary, syncarpous, tetralocular due to false septa, superior ovary with axile placentation. Style is simple, long and filiform. Stigma is dome shaped.

  11. Fruit : Spinescent capsule.

  12. Seed : Endospermous.
